Procedure:
- The process always starts with meeting with the client/s and discussing their vision and needs, as well as the type of wedding, time of day or night and the venue.
- Each individual is unique and the clients are encouraged to bring as much of their own ideas to the table. My task is then to create a look and garment that is complimentary to their unique personality and vision.
- It is customary to do the first consultation at a suitable fabric store as this helps the client to get a feel of the type of material to be used and a general idea what the garment may look like. A rough sketch is usually done during this meeting and necessary measurements are taken.
- The next step is a visual representation in the form of a detailed drawing. Once the design is approved, I work out a detailed summary of the costs for the client’s approval.
- The first consultation is free of charge. Once the design and costs have been approved and accepted, a 30% deposit is required. The balance of payment is due upon delivery.
- A mock-up of the garment is next. The mock or toile - pronounced [twhal] - will be constructed from an inexpensive fabric that enables the client to get a picture of the final garment and to eliminate any issues about the fit. I will not only checking the fit of the garment but also making sure that the design is complementary and adheres to the client’s vision and expectations.
- Once I have perfected the pattern and the general fit of the garment, I will begin work on the actual garment. I will require a 3-4 fittings before the final fitting and delivery.
- For all fittings it is advisable to wear the undergarments you intend to wear on your big day. It is also advisable to buy your shoes beforehand and bring them along for all the fittings.
- I will be personally involved in every aspect of the creation of your garment as it is my intention to ensure your wedding day is a memorable occasion.
